RIVER FOREST, Sick. (AP) — Marc Trestman didn’t conceal it.

As much as he credited the players and staff for the Chicago Bears’ season-opening conquer the actual Cincinnati Bengals, this individual couldn’t help but acknowledge his own personal satisfaction.

After all, it had been his first sport as a head private coach in the league.

It came after a long term as an NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE and college assistant just before spending the past five seasons in Canada, leading the actual CFL’s Montreal Alouettes. As well as his first appearance, the Bears took out a team many expect to contend in the AFC.

Even better, his 85-year-old father was in place hand for it.

“I was glad he was presently there to see the time, but that wasn’t what the day was about, ” Trestman said Mon. “The day was about the Bears as well as the city of Chicago and the followers. We had a chance to rejoice, no doubt about this. I’m never going to step aside and say we didn’t but it wasn’t the most important portion of the time. ”

The most important part was what happened in the field, likely Bears it had been a promising start.

These people rallied from 11 lower in the third one fourth to beat the actual Bengals 24-21, and although they hardly looked like a finished product, there were certainly plenty of positives they can take from that sport.

Their own offense got moving in the second 50 percent. They kept their poise down the extend. The offensive line held its ground towards Geno Atkins along with a fierce defensive top and did not enable a sack, despite two rookies in the right side and 4 new starters in all of the.

The defense that led the actual league with 44 takeaways last season revealed it hasn’t lost the ball-hawking ways under a new coaching staff, getting 2 interceptions through Charles Tillman and forcing three turnovers in all of the. Additionally, it contained the run, keeping BenJarvus Green-Ellis to 25 yards, even though it did give up two touchdowns hard disks of more than 90 yards in the first 50 percent.

“We needed to make some modifications, just play better overall, ” stated linebacker Adam Anderson, who created his Bears first appearance. “When offer up long performs, that kills your own defense so we’ve got to cut all those out. ”

It would be nice, too, if the Needs got their running sport going. Matt Forte had just 50 yards rushing on 19 tries and caught four goes for 41 yards.

“Our efficiency running the football wasn’t where we intended become, ” Trestman stated. “We didn’t obtain any explosive performs. Matt touched the actual ball approximately 25 periods and not the efficiency that we’d assume that he will get. There were no explosive plays. We have to do a better job for Matt of working the football and that we think we could. ”

However, it wasn’t a bad start for an offense that experienced its difficulties in recent times.

The particular Bears introduced Trestman to replace the fired Lovie Smith, wishing he could change might use quarterback Jay Cutler. Additionally they added a key piece on criminal offense in tight finish Martellus Bennett to sign up for a good overhauled line that now includes Jermon Bushrod at kunne left tackle along with two rookies within guard Kyle Long and tackle Jordan Mills in the right part.

How it will all come together remains to be seen, although they did pass the very first test.

Still, Cutler acknowledged later there are “a large amount of question grades. ”

Bennett also said players were nervous, and that may have shown in early stages, with the Bears managing 97 yards in the first half. They finished the game with 323 after Trestman opened it up up a bit more in the third and 4th quarters, after seeing that blockers were doing their portion.

“You might like to do the best you can to show the city exactly what we’re going to talk about this season, ” Bennett stated. “I think all of us brought a little enjoyment on the city. You got the actual Bulls, who win. And you also have the Blackhawks that just won a tournament. And it’s the time of year today. I think everybody had pressure just to be good. In case you have that kind of pressure from one another, everyone is nervous. When you go out presently there and you’re not nervous, then something’s wrong with you. We are going to not Navy Seals. I think all those are probably the sole people who aren’t nervous, for the most part.
