Joe Ryan of Sycamore High School in Sycamore, IL has been named the Chicago Bears Senior high school “Coach of the Week” for 7 days 8.
Ryan led the Spartans to a 31-21 conquer previously undefeated Kaneland last Friday, October 18, snapping the Knight’s 35-game regular season winning streak. Sycamore trailed 14-3 in the second one fourth and was faced with more adversity when starting quarterback Devin Mottat left the game due to a shoulder injury. He will also receive a framed certificate and attend a Bears practice and “chalk-talk” at Halas Corridor with his fellow 2013 “Coach of the Week” honorees.
The particular Chicago Bears “Coach of the Week” program is in its 18th time of year. The program honors outstanding Illinois high school coaches who develop players’ football skills and knowledge, character, management, discipline and teamwork abilities. Additional criteria considered include unique coaching methodology, school and community support, volunteerism and, most importantly, contributions to players’ long-term success on and off the field.
The program can run for nine weeks through September 2 through October 28. Deserving high school coaches are nominated by a panel of local preparation authorities and the winning “Coach of the Week” is selected each week. The particular Chicago Bears will make a $1, 500 contribution to the football plan at each winning coach’s school.
Since the program’s creation, the Bears have donated over $220, 000 to Illinois higher schools in support of their football applications. The Chicago Bears “Coach of the Week” program is brought to you by FOX 32 Chicago and the The state of illinois Army National Guard.
In addition to the “Coach of the Week” winners being honored at the Bears vs . Packers game on Dec 29, all eight IHSA football state champion teams will be known at this game. The Chicago Bears, in partnership with the Illinois High School Organization and the Illinois Army National Safeguard, will invite representatives from every team to the game, and a unique recognition of their state titles will take place during halftime.
